How does Identity Theft Protection monitor my credit reports for fraud?
Discover Identity Theft Protection provides daily monitoring of your credit report at all three credit bureaus and will alert you of key changes that may indicate fraud.
You will be alerted when we detect one of the following:
- New accounts
- New applications for credit / account inquiries
- Address changes
- Public record changes
- Potentially negative information
How is Identity Theft Protection different than Credit ScoreTracker?
Discover Identity Theft Protection provides daily monitoring of your credit report at all three credit bureaus and will alert you of key changes that may indicate fraud. As an added benefit to Discover Identity Theft Protection, you will receive your Experian® credit report and score upon enrollment to check for potential fraud.
Discover Credit ScoreTracker provides you with unlimited 24/7 online access to your Experian® credit report and score as well as valuable tools and personalized information to help you manage your credit.
How often do I receive my credit report?
Discover Identity Theft Protection delivers your Experian® credit report and score only upon enrollment to check for potential fraud. If you would like to have unlimited online access to your Experian® credit report and score, you may be interested in Discover Credit ScoreTracker.
Can I access my credit report and score with Identity Theft Protection?
Discover Identity Theft Protection provides your Experian® credit report and score only upon enrollment to check for potential fraud. If you would like to have unlimited online access to your Experian® credit report and score, you may be interested in Discover Credit ScoreTracker.
What should I do if I suspect fraudulent activity?
Discover Identity Theft Protection product provides you access to our Fraud Resolution Specialists who are on call to answer questions or offer immediate assistance if you suspect a problem. You'll also have access to information and tips that can help you identify ways to lower risk of identity theft.
If changes to my credit reports are detected, how will I be notified?
You will receive a notice either by mail or e-mail, depending if you are enrolled in "offline" or "online" version of Discover Identity Theft Protection.
Is my spouse or joint/secondary Cardmember also protected?
Only the primary Cardmember can enroll in Discover Identity Theft Protection. At this time there is not an option to include spouse or secondary Cardmember to the product.
Does Identity Theft Protection cover legal costs?
As a member of Discover Identity Theft Protection you will have up to $25,000 of Identity Theft Insurance, provided by Virginia Surety Company, Inc.*, to help cover certain legal costs or lost wages associated with restoring your identity.
* Due to New York state law restrictions, Identity Theft Insurance coverage is not available to residents of New York. New York state residents may still sign up to receive all of the other benefits of Identity Theft Protection.
How is the Identity Theft Protection product different for residents of New York state?
You may still sign up for Discover Identity Theft Protection as a New York state resident, however, the Identity Theft Insurance coverage provided by Virginia Surety Company is not included due to New York state law restrictions.
How do I reinstate Identity Theft Protection once I've cancelled?
If you've previously been enrolled in Discover Identity Theft Protection and would like to reinstate your benefits, you will need to re-enroll. You may enroll online or call 1-800-Discover.
How will I be billed for Identity Theft Protection?
Your Discover card account will be conveniently billed monthly or annually (if you choose the annual enrollment option) for the product fee.
If I enroll at the annual rate but decide to cancel early, am I still charged the entire cost?
If you enroll at the annual rate and cancel prior to the end of a full year you will receive a prorated refund.
How do I cancel my Identity Theft Protection Enrollment?
You may cancel Discover Identity Theft Protection at any time. Please call 1-800-347-3089 to cancel your Discover Identity Theft Protection enrollment.
